Looking to make some money while you complete your studies? International students on F-1 status are eligible for part-time on-campus employment, but some rules apply.
Types of Employment

Off-Campus Employment
If you are an international student in F-1 status, you cannot work off campus without authorization from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
USCIS reviews requests for off-campus employment on a case-by-case basis. To be considered, you must:
- Have been enrolled for at least one academic year.
- Be maintaining valid F-1 status.
- Be in good academic standing.
- Show that new, unexpected and serious circumstances beyond your control have caused severe financial hardship.
We encourage you to meet with the International Student Services team to discuss your situation and learn more about the requirements.
If you are eligible for off-campus employment, you must apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) through USCIS. International Student Services can guide you through the application process.
Do not work off campus without authorization from USCIS and International Student Services. Unauthorized employment is a serious violation of your F-1 status and can affect your ability to remain in the United States.

Part-Time On-Campus Employment
On-campus jobs are limited to 19.5 hours per week. Meet with Career and Transfer to learn more about available positions and find jobs you may qualify for.
Once you find a position you are interested in, you will need to complete the College’s hiring process. If you are selected for the job, International Student Services will help you apply for a Social Security number.
Training Related to Your Degree
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
CPT is for students that are pursuing a program that requires a mandatory internship/practicum in order to complete their program of study. You’re eligible for CPT after you’ve been enrolled for at least one academic year.
